Blood Stains in Carpets
Blood can be one of the most difficult staining substances to remove, and it can cause considerable damage to your carpets and floors, especially when allowed to dry. Being comprised of iron and proteins, blood coagulates as it dries, bonding with the fibers in your carpet and making it exceptionally difficult to remove. Plenty of home remedies exist for removing these stains, but it is likely that professional cleaning may become necessary.
If you or someone you know has blood stains in your carpet or upholstery, our team of experienced cleaning professionals may be able to help. Contact the Austin carpet cleaning specialists of WOW Total Cleaning today at 512-291-0048 to discuss your cleaning needs with a trained member of our professional staff.
Tips for Cleaning Blood From Carpets
The key to effectively removing a blood stain is treating the stain immediately, before it has had an opportunity to dry. After an accident, follow these steps to quickly and effectively remove the stain:
- Dampen a cloth with cold water and blot the stain to sop up any excess blood from the carpet.
- Mix a 1 tbsp to 2 cups solution of liquid dishwashing detergent with cold water, and sponge the stain with a clean white cloth, then blot the solution out of the carpet. Repeat until the stain is no longer being absorbed onto your cloth.
- If the stain persists, move on to an ammonia solution of 1 tbsp ammonia to ½ cup warm water, and repeat the process.
- Finish the process by sponging and blotting with cold water.
For severe stains or dried blood, even an ammonia solution may be unable to remove the stain, and professional care may be necessary.
