Flood Damage Assessed in Belton
The city of Belton is still recovering from flood damage caused by Tropical Storm Hermine’s rains.
Belton City Manager Sam Listi said officials are still assessing the damage. A group of six members of the Texas Emergency Management team arrived in Belton last week to assess primarily homes and businesses that were affected by the downpour. Another group examined the damage to the city’s infrastructure such as parks, streets and bridges.
“Last week, we had a team of six people from the state that came in and met with our representatives and went over all the damage area, and made their evaluation and assessment,” Listi said. “We will have an additional damage assessment team coming. . . It’s an on-going process to try and get us to those thresholds that are important for a federal disaster declaration. It’s encouraging that we are getting the response that people are coming to take a look.”
