Treating Upholstery Stains

Thought generally thought to be a  difficult task, there are many ways to treat a stain on upholstered furniture.

If your upholstered furniture is spilled on, it is important to treat the stain as soon as possible. The longer a stain goes untreated, the more likely it is to become a permanent feature of your upholstered furniture. Before treating the stain, try to identify the type of upholstery fabric you’ll be working with. Certain fabrics, such as nylon blends, acetate, and polyester, are stain-resistant and easier to clean.

Begin by dabbing the stain with a dry paper towel. Once the stain is dry, use warm water on a rag to dissolve the stain. Add a small amount of mild powdered detergent or liquid soap to the rag and continue to dab the soiled area. After a few minutes, use a rag with lukewarm water to rinse the area. Finish the job by vacuuming over the stain to remove any debris.
