Removing Rust Stains from Carpet and Upholstery

Rust stains are some of the hardest stains to remove, because rust’s chemical structure responds differently to normal cleaning products.

If you have ever tried to clean a rust stain, you may have used laundry detergents or even bleach. Rust, however, is a very interesting substance. It actually reacts quite well to cleaning products. Products like bleach, or cleaning agents that contain it, actually serve to intensify rust stains rather than remove them. Try an unconventional rust remover instead.

Lemon juice and salt are actually two of the best rust removers on planet earth.  Lemon works by loosening the rust stain and making it easier to remove. Simply soaking the stained area in lemon juice before running water on the stain can make its removal exponentially easier.

Salt can be used at the same time as lemon juice. While soaking the rust stain in the juice, pour some salt on the affected area. Together, the two will break down the stain allowing for a very easy removal.
