Treating Grease Stains on Carpet

Grease stains can be some of the hardest stains to remove from carpet, but with a little elbow grease you can restore your carpet to its original appearance.

To remove grease spots from non-washable carpets, begin by dabbing a sponge on the stain from the center to edge with a stain-removal product. Removal of a grease stain may take several applications of a detergent or cleaning agent. The use of an absorbent substance can also help soak grease out of the carpet fibers. Absorbents commonly used on grease stains include:

–          Corn Meal

–          Cornstarch

–          French Chalk

–          Fuller’s Earth

Absorbents are dusted on the grease stain to pick up the grease, and, when the material begins to looked caked, should be shaken or blown off. Repeat this process until the stain fades and then use a cleaning agent.
