The Ostwall Museum in Germany has lost a $1.1 million piece of art that was on loan as a result of a cleaning woman’s error.
The artwork entitled, When It Starts Dripping From The Ceiling, was created out of pieces of wood that were stacked on top of a rubber bucket filled with beige paint. The paint was supposed to resemble rain water that had dried except the cleaning woman thought it was a stain.
That ‘stain’ was scrubbed clean and now the museum has no way of returning the artwork to it’s original state. The janitorial employees have specific instructions to stay at least eight inches away from all artwork, but in this case it was unclear if the woman was informed that this ‘stain’ was artwork.
