The Austin American-Statesman reports that the city saw its highest recorded June temperature yesterday. The mercury peaked at 109 degrees at 3:00 p.m. at Camp Mabry.
The previous June record was 108 degrees, recorded in 1993. Overall, the city’s hottest days on record are August 28 of last year and September 5, 2000. Both of these days were a sweltering 112 degrees.
The record heat came despite a chance for severe thunderstorms. Meteorologists expect temperatures to stay in the triple digits until Friday.
