Upcoming project has plans to end flooding in San Antonio

Sixmile Creek in San Antonio, Texas has been known to overflow and cause serious flooding in residential homes near the area. In 1998 and 2002 the flooding got out of hand and several homeowners on the South Side saw the devastating effects of the rising water.

A project that has been in the works for several years is about to be put into place in Bexar County. This $23 million commitment will allow for several areas of the creek to be widened as well as numerous bridges to be built.

The city and residents of the South Side are hopeful that this project will put an end to needless flooding. The ability to maintain and house the rainfall is a large goal of the project. The construction efforts are expected to span out over the next 10 months.

First Food and Wine Festival in Austin scheduled for April

The Austin air duct cleaning experts of WOW Total Cleaning are pleased to learn that the first ever Austin Food and Wine Festival is scheduled for the weekend of April 27 and tickets go on sale tomorrow, Tuesday, January 24.

Throughout the weekend there will be more than 40 different events to attend, combining live music and food demonstrations. Something that is exclusive to the Austin festival will be the opportunity to participate in hands-on cooking demonstrations.

Several Austin chefs, as well as celebrity chefs, will be present to take part in the festivities including; Andrew Zimmern and Morimoto. Food tastings will also take place at the festival, which is set to be hosted by Food and Wine Magazine. How to remove a grease stain from upholstery

Removing a grease stain from fabric upholstery could be time consuming and challenging. Grease stains are one of the hardest to remove on your own and it is important to be diligent in the process in order to have the best results.

Here are some important steps in removing grease stains from upholstery:

Use baking soda to soak the grease stain fully
Let the baking soda sit on the stain for 20 minutes
After removing the baking soda, use a dry cleaning product
Apply the product to the stain, then remove

When dealing with grease, water-based cleaning products should not be used at all. These products can permanently seal the stain into the upholstery and will not help further uplift the stain.

19th annual MLK march to take place January 16

The Austin carpet cleaning experts of WOW Total Cleaning would like to announce that the MLK Community March, in it’s 19th year in Austin, is set to take place on January 16, 2012.

The march will begin at 9 a.m. with marchers gathering by the Martin Luther King statue on the campus of the University of Texas. The marchers will begin their march to the Capitol building from the statue. Once at the Capitol building, everyone will be able to enjoy gospel music. The last stop of the tour will be at Huston-Tillotson University, where several events have been planned to take place.

There will also be an MLK Community Festival taking place once the march begins. This festival will go until 3 p.m. in the afternoon and will feature several food vendors as well as local artists. To view the route of the march, please visit the MLK Celebration website.

Austin’s New Year to be held at Auditorium Shores

This will be the second year that the City of Austin will host Austin’s New Year. The event will be held at Auditorium Shores and is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday night.

Austin’s New Year has been designed as a safe environment for children as well as adults to enjoy several festivities. These festivities include special film screenings, circus acts, live music and a fireworks finale. A handful of musical acts will be on site to perform including Joe McDermott and Carolyn Wonderland.

City officials hope that this event will prevent drinking and driving in the city because it has been deemed as alcohol-free.

Plastic and paper bag ban proposed in Austin

The Austin carpet cleaning experts of WOW Total Cleaning would like to announce that a ban eliminating the use of plastic and paper bags at every check out counter in Austin has been proposed and the City of Austin may pass it.

The biggest factor in the ban would take place in 2016 when there would be absolutely no single-use plastic or paper bags at any check out throughout the city. Bags for bulk foods, meat, produce and dry cleaning are among the exemption to the ban. Reusable bags would be the only option that could be offered by retailers.

An additional area of the ban would take place in 2013 and would affect the price of plastic and paper bags. Consumers would still be able to receive these bags but they would be charged 25 cents per bag. The city would receive 22.5 cents out of the 25 cents and would utilize that money to promote the use of reusable bags.

Sunday, December 4, the Zilker Tree will be lit

The Austin Carpet Cleaners of WOW Total Cleaning are happy to announce that the annual Zilker Tree lighting will happen on Sunday, December 4 at 6 p.m. Throughout the month of December the tree will be glowing between 6 p.m. and midnight.

The 155-ft tree boasts a double-sided star and over 3,300 sparkling lights. The Zilker Tree lighting kicks off the Austin Holiday Fest which will be free to the public and located at Zilker Park. The Holiday Fest will feature different attractions including Santa’s Workshop.
